UConn Basketball’s 2027 Recruiting Class Is the Finest within the Nation, and the Massive East Ought to Be Nervous – Sox and Dawgs

Two years faraway from back-to-back nationwide championships, the going concept round UConn was that Dan Hurley had already peaked — that 2023 and 2024 had been a closing window, not a brand new baseline. Jordan Web page spent Sunday night time making that concept look silly.

The 6-foot-5 wing out of Raleigh dedicated to UConn on October 4th, choosing the Huskies over North Carolina, NC State and a handful of different blue bloods who assumed proximity and custom would matter greater than they did. ESPN’s personal report on the dedication had Web page checking in at No. 14 total and No. 10 per 247Sports within the 2027 class, not as a developmental venture however as a top-15 nationwide recruit strolling right into a program two years faraway from its final title.

That alone could be a pleasant get. It’s not the entire story. Web page is now the second five-star UConn has landed on this class, becoming a member of NaVorro Bowman Jr., the No. 12 prospect within the nation in line with ESPN, a dedication Yahoo Sports activities lined as proof UConn is quietly assembling the perfect class within the nation. Recruiting insider Joe Tipton broke the information first:

NEWS: 5⭐️ Jordan Web page has dedicated to UConn, he introduced. ⁰⁰The 6-5 capturing guard is a top-15 total recruit within the 2027 class. He picked the Huskies over North Carolina. https://t.co/rEeI0RP5un pic.twitter.com/KabNITzdcg

Two five-stars in a single cycle isn’t a rounding error. ESPN’s Jeff Borzello flagged simply how uncommon it truly is:

NEWS: 5-star wing Jordan Web page simply introduced his dedication to UConn — Dan Hurley and the Huskies now have the highest two dedicated prospects in 2027, with No. 14 Web page becoming a member of No. 12 NaVorro Bowman Jr.

That is UConn’s firstclass with two ESPN five-stars in a minimum of 20 years — choose no matter period you suppose you keep in mind clearly, it wasn’t that one.

That’s an extended wait to finish, and it’s ending whereas Hurley’s roster nonetheless has two championship banners going up within the rafters. Applications don’t luck into that timing. They recruit into it.

Web page defined his reasoning throughout a dedication announcement on NBATV with Adam Finkelstein, and it wasn’t delicate. He mentioned Hurley offered him on “hats and rings,” on lottery picks and championships, on becoming a member of a successful tradition as an alternative of making an attempt to construct one from scratch. For a child who had Chapel Hill on his go to checklist, that’s not nothing to say out loud, on air, with UNC nonetheless within the room.

Finkelstein broke down why Web page particularly was the match UConn focused all alongside:

UConn focused a number of of the easiest wings within the nation.

Jordan web page was the one who match them finest although.

Now the caveat, as a result of it’s actual: commits decommit. Youngsters flip. Coaches depart, NIL packages get rewritten in a single day, and an October verbal from a junior in highschool shouldn’t be a legally binding something. Recruiting rankings shuffle consistently between now and signing day, and the 2027 class doesn’t finalize for an additional 15 months. St. John’s, Marquette and Villanova aren’t handing UConn the Massive East as a result of two youngsters picked Storrs over a few campus visits.

Hurley is utilizing these two championship banners because the pitch itself, and the 2027 class is reacting like youngsters who grew up watching parades, not rebuilds. The Massive East spent two years bracing for a post-championship hangover that by no means arrived — NOBODY bothered telling the following era of recruits to attend for one. Marquette and Villanova can hold promoting participant growth. UConn is now promoting outcomes with receipts, and each coach left within the convention ought to already be dialing no matter five-star remains to be out there earlier than the following dedication lands. The hole the league assumed would shut by now could be as an alternative getting wider, one five-star at a time. Sustain with the remainder of the school basketball protection as Nationwide Signing Day approaches. This class isn’t achieved rising.
